Pepe Jeans Case Essay
The fundamental bit of leeway of Pepe not conveying stock is clearly the cost reserve funds, as it is normally not productive or practical so far as that is concerned, to convey abundance stock. The drawback isn't having enough of pants close by to transport to stores when request is high. A stock would help reduce this. The half year lead time is both a bit of leeway and burden for Pepe. The long lead time is sure in that once a retailer submits a request, they just have seven days to drop the request. Pepe can understand a benefit after just ten days as opposed to months after the fact. The agreement secured retailers quickly and shields them from reneging on the arrangement. The drawback is that numerous stores might be killed by the long lead. It was referenced in the article that most makers have lead times of a couple of months or less. The free stores additionally would in general request less volume because of the unyielding request framework, and the issue with design is that things ordinarily have a short wearable life before they become unfashionable. Corporate buyers were stressed that the pants they requested may become dated before they even show up. On the off chance that I were the supervisor of Pepe, I would guarantee my retail accomplices that each sensible move was as of now being made to help decrease the present lead time. I would make reference to the alternatives being thought of and express gratitude toward them for their association. I would then plunk down with the CFO just as the best investigators in the organization and run reports to figure the most proficient strategy for decreasing lead time. The case makes reference to two choices to lessen lead time: working with a Hong Kong sourcing operator or building a completing activity in the UK. Without seeing the companyââ¬â¢s financials, it is hard to state which would be a superior decision. The article mentions that Pepe has no drawn out obligation and seems to have a lot of money close by. In the event that that is genuinely the situation, at that point the better alternative might be to put resources into the completing processing plant. There would be an enormous speculation in advance, however lead time could be sliced down the middle while decreasing expenses by up to 10% also. Then again, the sourcing specialist might diminish lead time down to as meager as about a month and a half. The issue with this alternative is that expenses to take off by as much as 30%.

Values Of the Society Depicted in The House Of Mirth - Literature Essay Samples
In Edith Whartons The House Of Mirth, money is the most evident and most basic value held by the characters who populate the authors turn-of-the-century New York. Essentially, money is valued for only one reason it provides the means by which those in possession of it may do as they please. But it is valued as such in two distinct ways, by two distinct types of people: those who think about money, and those who do not. I know theres one thing vulgar about money, and thats the thinking about it, Simon Rosedale tells Lily Bart in chapter fifteen of the first book, before adding: My wife would never have to demean herself in that way. Rosedale is one of those people who are in such a position that they do not have to think about money; though he has climbed his way up the social ladder and has increased his wealth little-by-little, he is at a point where, financially, he does not need to keep track of every last dollar in his bank account. If he would like to wear new clothes or t o display new rings on his fingers, he may purchase those items with no concern for the amount debited from his savings. Lily, on the other hand, cannot afford such luxuries. She tells Gerty Farish in chapter eight of the second book: I always understand how people can spend much more money never how they can spend any less! Lily, unlike Rosedale, must constantly be wary of her money. Deeply in debt but equally deeply attracted to high society, she is in a position where she must pay strict attention to her steadily decreasing finances; indeed, this plight is the engine that drives the entire novel. But neither Rosedale nor Lily value money as money, as a simple physical object. In this society, money is valued as a means to an end: depending on the amount of money held by a particular individual, money has the power to set them free, or to bind them to a lifestyle of considerably lower standards. Those standards are, themselves, valued both separately and in conjunction with money. On one level, ones standards of living are representative of how much money that individual possesses, and the quality of ones standards indicates how wealthy or poor one may be. But on another level, ones standards of living are valued as a kind of passport into ones preferred company. Those standards are valued, therefore, only by the individual who holds them, not by any kind of third party, for that individual is the only one who can reap the benefit of their own standards of living, which have no bearing on anyone outside of themselves. It is this pressure to maintain her high standards of living that drives Lily Bart to act as she does, for she fears that if her standards drop (as they eventually do) she will be shunned by the company of which she is a part (as she is). Lily does not so much value her standards in themselves as much as she values the company they enable her to frequent. This, then, is a society driven by appearance. A persons worth is determined by their exterior: whose company they keep, to whom they are married, the clothes they wear, the places they travel. Notice how other, interior qualities such as humor or intellect or kindliness toward strangers are not valued by Whartons characters. On the contrary, in chapter thirteen of the second book, Lily recalls how horrified she was to witness first-hand Gerty Farishs preference to spend her time and money helping poor, unfortunate people superfluous fragments of life destined to be swept prematurely into that social refuse heap of which Lily had so lately expressed her dread. Such qualities necessitate finding company in people whose appearance is tattered, sub-standard, low-class, perhaps undernourished. On the other hand, Carry Fishers comments to Lily in the fifth chapter of the second book indicate how the importance of the company one keeps can influence ones decisions: Though I like the Gormers best, theres more profit for me in [keeping company with] the Brys, Fis her says. The fact is, they want to try Newport this summer, and if I can make it a success for them, they well, theyll make it a success for me.Success itself is, likewise, a value of this society. It is, perhaps, the most essential value of all, for success is what defines the individuals in the class of which Lily is initially a part. Success can be financial wealth, or a solid marriage, a respectable inheritance or even a lucky streak at gambling. Were it not for their success and the lack of success attained by those beneath them they would have no basis for their indulgence in extravagances, nor for their air of superiority. Somewhat ironically, this notion is spelled out for us, and for Lily, by Nettie Struther, a member of those lower classes, in chapter thirteen of book two. Ive always thought of you as being so high up, where everything was just grand, Nettie tells Lily. Sometimes, when I felt real mean and got to wondering why things were so queerly fixed in the world, I used to remember that you were having a lovely time, anyhow, and that seemed to show there was a kind of justice somewhere. It is doubtful that Lilys contemporaries would be so kind in their judgments of someone from Nettie Struthers lower classes; after all, if their money and their appearances are what allow them their social status, their success is the quality that determines their attitude within that status. That is why success is of such a high value: it allows one to behave as one pleases toward anyone who has not achieved an equal level of success.By extension, the values of appearance and of success are in turn supported by the twin values of etiquette and courtesy; etiquette being the rules established by the social class of which Lily is a part, and courtesy being certain acts of kindness, which are not necessarily bound by those rules, put forth by those who are also a part of that class. Consider, as an example of how the value of appearances is dependent on the value of courtesy, the twelfth chapter of the first book, in which Gerty Farish gushes over her invitation to a party: Wasnt it dear of Lily to get me an invitation? she exclaims. We realize that the otherwise isolated Gerty would not have been able to raise the standard of her social appearances were it not for the courtesy (as opposed to any kind of obligation) offered to her by Lily. Consider now, as an example of how the value of appearances is dependent on etiquette, the third chapter of the second book, in which Lily tries to save face by forcing conversation between herself and an icy Bertha Dorset: As she tried to fan the weak flicker of talk, to build up, again and again, the crumbling structure of appearances, her own attention was perpetually distracted by the question: What on earth can she be driving at? There was something positively exasperating in Berthas attitude of isolated defiance. Even simple conversation is not implemented by this society as an act o f luxury, or even as simple communication, but as a necessity demanded by the rules established by that society; those rules of etiquette dictate that, in terms of appearances, something as simple as silence can be deadly. The flip-side of the niceties of etiquette and courtesy is the value of resolved stoicism, yet on some level it also complements those two qualities. As with personal standards of living, the citizens of this society do not value stoicism in itself; however, what it affords them is of the utmost importance. Scandal, too, is of supremely high value, since it is the product of actions that break etiquette or defy courtesy; in turn, it results in gossip and hearsay, both of which are particularly valuable commodities, as evidenced by Mrs. Penistons propensity to keep records on every attendee at every party she has ever been to (in book one, chapter nine). Similarly, the ability to remain stoic in the face of broken etiquette, to wear a facade so as not to betray o nes true emotions, is supremely valuable in order to ward off scandal. Stoicism, then, is valued by those individuals who might attract gossip and scandal, while scandal itself is valued by those who wish to break through the stoicism of such individuals: scandal is valued as a weapon, while stoicism is valued as a defense.Indeed, stoicism is rampant throughout the novel, particularly on behalf of Lawrence Selden, yet it is not until the characters dispense with it that we realize how much it was a part of their lives. Consider Lilys encounter with Rosedale in chapter eleven of the second book. After countless discussions in which each of them was hidden behind a stoic veil of manners, or courtesy, or even wit and occasionally savage words, each of them finally allows that barrier to break down. [Lily] had in truth never seen [Rosedale] shaken out of his usual glibness, and there was something almost moving to her in his inarticulate struggle with his emotions, while, moments lat er, Lilys blush deepened to a glow in which humiliation and gratitude were mingled, and both sentiments revealed themselves in the unexpected gentleness of her reply.Ironically, this discussion between Lily and Rosedale has the effect of gradually breaking down her dislike for Rosedale. The dislike, indeed, still subsisted, but it was penetrated here and there by the perception of mitigating qualities in him: of a certain gross kindliness, a rather helpless fidelity of sentiment, which seemed to be struggling through the hard surface of his material ambitions. The irony here lies in the fact that the value of stoicism is intended to uphold the value of manners and of etiquette, yet it is only through the breakdown of stoicism that Lily and Rosedale are able to penetrate the facade and to reach a quality that exists on an altogether deeper level of value honesty. Certainly, if the citizens of this society were to be caught in a lie it would result only in scandal, but by the same token they are forced to lie every day, as they are once again bound by the rules and the values of etiquette and courtesy: it is easier to lie to an opponent than it is to suffer the consequences of offending them. In a society where honesty is really only held up as a value if it is complimentary, there is a certain poetic justice in the truly honest emotional communication that emerges between Lily and Rosedale only after they dispense with such rules of etiquette. What, then, can we say of the ultimate value held by this society? It is, of course, security: physical, financial, spiritual, social, emotional. Take a hansom cab, dont walk the streets at night; its not safe. Ensure your financial security before indulging in extravagances. Go to church, even if it is for social reasons rather than religious ones; one must make an appearance. Accept all invitations to parties and gatherings and vacations; it will ingrain your presence in social circles. Marry for security, not for love; love cannot save you if you begin to fall. The citizens of this society exist in a world where they want nothing to change; to fall from grace would be terrible, to rise any higher would be almost impossible. They have every luxury they need, and there is almost nothing more they desire. As such, they do not take risks. We see what they fail to notice: we understand that they are financially free, and are free from the rules that constrict the lower classes, and, if they so wished, they could lead any kind of lifestyle they choose yet the lifestyle they have chosen is one in which they form their own rules, arguably more constrictive than those that bind the lower classes, so as to ensure that no-one they disapprove of may remain amongst their ranks.Safety and security are prized above all else that is, safety both within their own ranks and from forces outside their closed-off circle. Lily falls from their company, first, because she has not found a husband and so has not established security within her society, and second, because she is forced to rely on her own finances, then discovers that she cannot, and so she finds herself indefensible against her own integration into the working-class forces of which she is clearly not a part. Had she established security within the upper class, however much to her chagrin, she might not have fallen at all and would not have had to face the challenge of the world outside her upper class group. Hers is a closed-off society, isolated by choice in one of the busiest cities in the world. In that society, such isolation makes its inhabitants secure from anyone who might threaten their position so that the only downfall that any one of them could possibly suffer must arise from a betrayal of their established rules or from gluttony towards their established values and ultimately, it must be a downfall brought about by their own hand.

Business Operations for Goods and Consumer Products -myassignmenthelp
Question: Write about theBusiness Operations for Goods and Consumer Products. Answer: Introduction: Retail shops are those places, which involves a method to sell goods and consumer products to the customers to earn a profit via their channeling sources. Retailers are those people who satisfy the needs of the varied individuals to earn a profit. The word shopping is included with this process, which generally involves buying the products. Modern business in retail shops involves the owner to make strategic decisions regarding the business about the market place and the types of products to be served and the layout of the shop including the promotions applied. This report discusses about the various technologies applied in the Oz Supermarket. The applied technology to be discussed is the PayWave technology. The report also includes certain recommendations to help increase the business. Discussion: The Oz Supermarket is a new retail shop that is setup with the main mindset of reducing the problems associated with the customers standing in long queues. The supermarket encourages the customers to come inside the supermarket and then get the required products. After the end of shopping, the customers are not required to stand in queues to pay for the products. Instead, they are required to wave their card at the checkout point and the bill is automatically deducted from their card. PayWave technology: The PayWave technology involves the card of the customers to be hovered or tapped at the terminal for transaction. This feature inhibits the requirement of entering the pin in the terminal and facilitates cashless society (Lerner, 2013). Many retail outlets are adopting this feature for cash related problems and fewer queues. This technology needs the person to be within a radius of 4cm and the same transaction cannot be done twice due to the presence of a unique transaction number. Business Process: The goods that are available in the supermarket include those products that belong to the group of household and stationary. The chain of products included is those, which are non-perishable and are available for a long time. This facilitates effective business and does not require the need of constant checking of the products. The store is also supposed to include the technology of PayWave. This technology eliminates the need of customers standing in queues for checkout process. During the entry of the customers in the store, they are required to wave their card at the entrance of the store. This helps them to enter the store without any problems. The trolleys used for shopping are fitted with special Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), which tracks the record of the products that are being put in them. Whenever a customer puts a product in the cart, the product is automatically lined for payment from the card of the customer involved. If the product is removed, the queue is emptied from billing. After the process of shopping, the customers bag the products and leaves without any problem of standing in the queue. The bill to be deducted is automatically made from the card of the customer involved. For the customers without a PayWave technology approved card like the tourists and students, they are allowed to make a cash deposit in the store and are issued a temporary card which will enable shopping for them. The shopping process is same like the other customers. After shopping, the balance amount is returned or recorded to facilitate future transactions. In case the cash deposit for the card is not enough to make up for the purchase amount, an alarm is supposed to ring. The store incurs an extra cost for the necessity for tagging of RFID readers in each of the shopping carts present in the store. This cost is made up from the interest of the customers who are always in a big rush. The store also facilitates the customers to view the detailed list of the products that are available in their cart for easy shopping. These stands for showing the quantities of the cart are placed strategically throughout the store. The store also gets the required resources by charging for car parking. The rates are higher for peak hours are much lower for non-peak hours. Disabled parking rates are free. Recommendations: The business is good but there is presence of certain entities that might hinder the effective sales made by the supermarket. The customers are the potential sales and more products they buy, the more sales that will be made. The supermarket needs to create awareness of using their cards with PayWave technology as not all people have their cards with PayWave technology (Leavitt, 2012). Those who do not have the cards are to be made sure of getting one and not relying on cash purchase every time they shop in the store. This helps in reducing the minimum downtime that is being created because of them. The presence of various stands for showing the cart contents are to be well facilitated so that customers feel more ease in checking their contents. Moreover, this can create a queue when all the customers in a certain area will try to check their contents at the same time (Piramuthu, Wochner Grunow, 2014). The need for a newer technology is required. The sales person responsible for customer relationship is to be well trained so that effective relationship between the customers and the store is made. A retail store is dependent on its customers to make the sales intended for the store (Vivek et al., 2014). In case of any problems or misunderstanding, the sales person is to make them understand regarding any problems faced. This in turn facilitates better understanding and helps to get better loyalty from them. Conclusion: The PayWave technology used in the Oz Supermarket is a better initiative as this helps the idea of cashless society to be implemented. The requirement for cash and the need for standing in queue are limited by the use of this technology. Thus, it is concluded form the report that the business operation is a very good initiative for serving more quality products to the customers and make more sales. Suggestions for customer service improvement: There are many ways to improve the quality of customer experience perceived. This helps in more sales made, as the core business is dependent on these customers. To increase the customer experience, the skills that are being used by the sales person responsible in the store are to be made more efficient (Perdikaki, Kesavan Swaminathan, 2012). The need for patience and consistency is a necessary quality in the sales person. Many customers will ask the same questions for their satisfaction until they get what they want. The sales team needs to be more patient when dealing with such kinds of customers. The sales team needs to adapt to the changes in moods in a day. These must not come as a surprise and business must not be hampered due to this reason. The requirement for clear communication among the sales person and the customers are a necessity. The communications perceived can affect the business as it can totally change the mindset of the customer regarding a product. The customers also rely on the knowledge of the sales person as they have a habit of directing their queries to the sales person (Wan, Evers Dresner, 2012). The presence of effective knowledge is required to answer the queries of the customers and make more conversions regarding any problems associated. The honesty and the knowledgeable skills are always appreciated by the customers as well as the storeowners. Suggestions to improve business service/operations: The customer service can also be improved by increasing the interactions with the customers. The presence of common ground between the sales person and the customers helps in resolving conflicts more easily and provides better solution to the customers (Ene Ozkaya, 2014). The need to hear is present in all the customers to direct their issue and queries and the sales people need to hear them to make the customer feel more welcome in the store. After solving the issue or queries of the customers, the store needs to check up on them to facilitate strong relationship with them and ensure that their loyalty lies with the store. By emailing the customers or by inviting for a survey, the effectiveness is always ensured. The store needs to know the loyalty of its customers (Heizer, 2016). The change in behavior of a loyal customer is characterized by frequent visits, fewer issues in dealing with a situation and more time spent in the store. The promotions for getting customers that are mor e loyal are to be included in the marketing aspect of the store. Effective surveys and emailing for convenience is an effective strategy for getting more loyalty from the customers. The loyalty of the customers is also affected by several factors like the cleanliness and attractiveness of the staff, helpful employees (Mani, Kesavan Swaminathan, 2015). These aspects are to be analyzed and then effective solutions are to be made in these parameters to help increase the required outcome. The operational effectiveness is a parameter, which always requires effective planning and applying the changes to increase the way of doing the business. The operational efficiency is the parameters that should be checked in terms of the stores. The different areas for applying the changes are to be made sure and then the changes are to be applied (Liu Ko, 2012). The geographic location plays an important role in the operation of the store. The needs and preferences of the customers are to be considered first and the products in demand are to be considered to meet the requirements of the customer, which will facilitate effective operation. This type of targeted marketing and selling will help the business to increase (Vivek, Beatty Morgan, 2012). The area where the operation needs to be improved has to be checked and improvement is to be applied in accordance to the preferences discovered. The marketing of the store helps to know the preferences of the customers and helps to apply the optimization required. By analyzing the surveillance videos, the store can determine the quality and effectiveness of the methods for driving traffic to the store (Russo Spena et al., 2012). The videos can also help to see the engagement of the audiences and apply the results for increasing the effectiveness of the results. Another optimization that is needed is the increase in the engagement of the employee. The sales person needs to be made aware of the relationship between the customer and the store and the impact it can make on the market concerned (Shamim Ghazali, 2014). The required training for increasing the efficiency of the employee dealing with certain situations are to be given by trained personnel to facilitate better solving of the issues. The sales team with a low amount of conversions is to be recognized and effective training is to be given to them. The store needs to ensure that no legal issues are raised, as this can be a setback to the effectiveness of the store (Kim Kim, 2014). To ensure this, the legal issue is to be addressed by effective sales person and the complaints to be solved are to be quickly sent to the legal team associated with the store. As the customers of the store are the most important aspect, their decision must be heard so that they feel that they are heard and welcome. The sales person must reach to the customers and invite them for a free product review and the review must be listened with care even if it seems to be not relevant (Pantano, 2014). This product review and feedbacks relating to the product must be considered which in turn will facilitate the strengthening of the relationship between the customer and the store. Along with these suggestions to help strengthen the relationship between the store and the customer, the layout and the design of the store needs to appealing and attractive to get more visits both from loyal as well as new customers (Harter et al., 2013). The interactive design and the better facilities provided are the aspect to consider better sales. In addition, presence of better technologies to streamline the process of operation is also another factor that is to be considered to make an impression on the customers.
